Migrating from Collaba's previous product line
In February 2008, the Collaba product line was completely restructured, thus leading to the replacement of all four Collaba editions (Education, Enterprise, Special Edition and Light Edition) by a single new unified Collaba product (referred to as Collaba [2008]). Version 6.1 is the last release of all four terminated editions, while version 7.0 is the first release of the new unified Collaba [2008].
Changes for specific customers
For Collaba Education Portal customers, the new unified Collaba [2008] offers the same feature set and is available at a similar price. What is new however is the ability to get a Collaba server for *any* number of users, as opposed to Collaba Education Portal which involved an expensive server license and a minimum quantity of 1000 users. Collaba [2008] is therefore much more affordable to smaller educational organizations. Finally, certified educational organizations that purchase Collaba [2008] licenses automatically get free limited accounts for parents (two parent accounts per user license).
For Collaba Enterprise Server customers, the new unified Collaba [2008] offers the same feature set, but is available at a much lower cost than before. Collaba's TCO is therefore much smaller, leaving you more money to invest on training, hardware, etc.
For Collaba Special Edition customers, the new unified Collaba [2008] offers much more features (well, all of them actually!) for a similar price per site. No more limited features, everything is included!
As for Collaba VL (Light Version), it has always been considered as a free trial version for eventually getting a more complete Collaba product. Consequently, a free trial version of Collaba [2008] is still available, but its limits are different. First, the trial version now includes *all* features, instead of offering only a subset of the features of other Collaba products. This allows you to evaluate Collaba much more thoroughly. The other limits are: can create a maximum of 30 users; trial license is valid for 30 days from the date it was requested (so the server stops working after that period); the server must be restarted every day.
Migrating licenses
The migration from Collaba Education Portal, Collaba Enterprise Server and Collaba Special Edition (pre-2008) to the new Collaba (2008) product is free. Each user license from a previous edition is converted into one new user license (1 = 1). Previous editions required a server license (which carried its own price tag), while the new Collaba is based solely on user licenses. Consequently, new user licenses are priced so to result in a total price similar to what you paid for under the previous licensing model (server + users).
There might be a difference between the price you paid for your current licenses and the price it would cost under the new pricing list. As such, if the new price is higher than the one you paid for your current licenses, you have NO payment to make to migrate to Collaba [2008]. If the new price is lower, a refund for the difference can be issued if licenses were purchased on or after December 15th 2007.
License keys for previous Collaba editions will not work when upgrading to Collaba 7.0 (or later), so please contact us to get new license keys free *before* you upgrade to Collaba 7.0.
